The first day, the first host family, and the first presentation. A great day all round for me. My host family, Rodney and Colleen gave me a very warm welcome to their beautiful home, and I have already been taken to see the ongoing Coega IDV(?), which is a government-funded development project to develop a new harbour and industrial zone on the outskirts of Port Elizabeth . It is a huge project, but the global economic climate has not bypassed South Africa, and there is a lot of work do be done to encourage major industries to invest in the site.

fter a quick wash an brush up, we left for the first club visit, hosted by the Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth West, at their stunning Yacht Club venue, somewhat battered by recent storms (the wind is an ever-present aspect of P.E. it would appear). The presentation seemed to be well received, and we met a lot of warm, friendly people. The reception was was all that we could have hoped, and I'm sure we feel a lot better having given our first presentation and got the ball well and truly rolling.

If our first day is anything to go by, this is going to be a fascinating, challenging and eye-opening trip - exactly what we had hoped :)
