We had a very nice day today for many reasons. We first went for a visit to a battlefield near Kimberley. This was the Magersfontein site, scene of one of the key battles of the Anglo-Boer war. Many highland regiments fought there, and lost many men. The woman who showed us around was very knowledgeable and passionate about her subject, which made it a very enjoyable visit.

That afternoon, a couple of us took a couple of hours from our rest period to go and catch a bit of one of the warm-up matches that the England Cricket team were playing, which was a very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours. We rounded off the day with a braii at our hosts house, which I even did most of the cooking for - including toasted sandwiches on the grill, which I have never seen before, but worked really well!
