16/10/09 Vocational day
James, Mike and I met with a social worker, Janine, from Free State Care in Action, which was established in 1908 as the Orange Women's Foundation.
Janine cobvers almost all aspects of social work including - Community Care, Children and Families , criminal Justice, substance misuse and marriage guidance.
however , 98% of her work involves children and families largely those affected by HIV and aids.
Janine explained that she has strong links with education, police and health .
Despite being a non-government organisation Janine carries statutory social work cases.
Her enthusiasm for the job and initaitive appears to allow her to single-handedly attempt to work effectively with approx 400 cases. This is significantly more than the average case load of a social worker in Scotland. Janine had a part-time admin worker but no computerised system for recording info, which clearly added to the pressure of her job.
Many thanks to Janine who really was an inspiration to all especially those in social work.
