Boitumelo hospital is a state funded hospital in kroonstad, the free state. The hospital is undergoing a lot of building work at the moment and the facilities are improving. The staff were fantastic in this hospital although i must say Physiotherapy was not high on their list of priorities and the Physio department was under-staffed and poorly equiped. Work on the wards was fantastic, its very different to have wards for TB and HIV/AIDS alone. Respiratory physio is reletively new to the wards here and only used by some doctors who request it specifically. There are no senior physio's in the hospital, only junior physio's completeing their one year post-graduate compulsory year in government funded health care, so specialised physiotherapists would appear to be non-existant in the state funded hospitals....we are spoilt in the NHS!

Patients were great, very appreciative regardless of the language barrier, a lovley place to work with a huge number of patients urgently needing physiotherapy.
